Expert Reveals Most Effective Way to Combat Drug Abuse

The Head of Psychiatric Nursing, Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Mrs. Taiwo Omirin has engaging traditional rulers, religious and community leaders to support the fight against drug abuse in their various spheres of influence remain the most effective.

The neuro-psychiatrist also charged parents and other stakeholders to rise to the challenge of ensuring that illicit substances are kept away from young Nigerians as it is capable of compromising their bright future.

She made this call on Thursday while speaking on the topic, ‘Combating Drug Abuse: A Collective Responsibility’, to mark the 7th award ceremony of Medalinks, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

According to her, “This intervention and campaign from relevant stakeholders is expected to curb the stream of drug abuse in the society.

“It is time for us as parents to give our children proper education and sensitisation about health and drug abuse.”

Omirin, however, called on relevant government agencies and stakeholders to ensure the rehabilitation of drug addicts into society to combat stigma and discrimination, adding, “Many people who abuse drugs could further harm their physical and mental health if not properly reintegrated back into the society through necessary help they need.

In his address, the Publisher of Medalinks News, Omooba Taiwo Tiamiyu, said the event was to celebrate personalities who have contributed immensely to the development of the country through their chosen professions.
