Lagos State Governor Inaugurates Pediatric Sickle Cell Centre at LASUTH
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated a Pediatric Sickle Cell Centre at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), donated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs).
The centre will provide comprehensive care, including early diagnosis, advanced treatment, and continued management, to children suffering from sickle cell disease. It will also serve as a hub for research and education, fostering greater awareness and understanding of the disease.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the centre will transform the healthcare landscape, add to childcare facilities, raise medical service capacity, and improve infant and maternal mortality rates. The centre will provide holistic care, including medical treatment and psychological support, tailored to individual needs.
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, reiterated the federal government’s commitment to combating non-communicable diseases and improving healthcare outcomes. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, noted that the centre will enhance care for children with sickle cell disease and reduce under-five child mortality.
