The Gombe State Government has launched a polio immunization campaign targeting 131,815 under-five children in Gombe Local Government Area.

Kano Targets Over 3 million Children with Polio Immunisation

The Kano State government is targeting about 3.6 million children for immunisation against poliomyelitis in the forthcoming 2024 OBR4 campaign which kickoff today.

According to a statement signed by Ibrahim Abdullahi, Information Officer Ministry of Health, the state’s commissioner for Health and the Co-Chair State Taskforce Committee on Immunisation, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, disclosed this intent on Friday during a committees meeting at the Africa House, Government House, Kano.

“The main objective of the meeting is to inform the public and remind stakeholders of the upcoming polio campaign, starting Saturday (tomorrow) for proper and adequate preparedness.

“It is a customary that whenever there is going to be a round of campaign like this, stakeholders get together to map-out strategies for successful conduct of the activities and thereafter convey the message to the public to bring out their children to access the services,” the statement reads.

Furthermore, the statement disclosed that awards are introduced to rewards best performing local governments during the exercise while appreciating governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Emir of Kano, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi II and other development partners.

“In an effort to fine-tuning the exercise, awards have been introduced among local government areas with a view to sort out the best four that excel during campaign to sensitise and ginger-up stakeholders to keep up with standard and good work for a successful exercise.

“Appreciations goes to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting health services since coming on board, his compassion and high-mindedness to the care of the people of the state at all levels.

“His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi II, and other development partners are commended for their support to eradicate polio in the state,” it says.
