WAMY, Inuwa Foundation Provide Eye Medical Surgery for 2,736 Patients in Jigawa

At least 2,736 persons have benefitted from free eyes services and cataract surgery financed by the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, WAMY, in collaboration with Mallam Inuwa Foundation in Jigawa State.

Chairman, Management team of Inuwa Foundation, Dr. Husseini Yusuf Baban said the eye surgeries were conducted on 636 patients, 600 others received medical glasses while 1,500 benefitted from a variety of drugs.

He added that the medical outreach on treating eye defects was necessitated by the need to reduce the burden of blindness in several Jigawa communities.

“The motivation for organizing the medical outreach is purely to assist vulnerable communities, and persons who lack the wherewithal to perform necessary eye surgeries. And again, we are doing this solely to seek reward from Almighty God,” he said.

Aside from sponsoring the eye surgery, WAMY also distributed free medicated glasses and drugs for their various eye ailments to the patients at the Dutse General Hospital In Jigawa.

The yearly week-long medical outreach to correct eye defects of the beneficiaries by WAMY with the support of Jigawa State is facilitated by the family of Mallam Kashifu Inuwa, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to help vulnerable and indigent patients for quality health services.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Audu Ali Warwade expressed gratitude to the organisers for the free medical services.

He applauded the efforts of Mallam Inuwa Foundation and WAMY in organizing the outreach, which has helped to cure the cataract and other eye problems that hitherto affected their sights.

Mallam Inuwa Foundation, founded in 2018, is a community-based foundation meant to improve the lives of people in Jigawa state. The Foundation plays a key role in identifying and solving various problems within the community and beyond.

The foundation in collaboration with Qatar Charity Foundation had also provided potable water and free eye medical services to the people of Dutse, Gumel, and Hadejia emirates of Jigawa State.

WAMY Foundation was founded in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1972 and opened offices in countries with significant Muslim populations throughout the world. WAMY was founded by Muslim Brotherhood member, Kamal Helwabi, who went on to serve as its executive director until 1982.

In their remarks, the Head of WAMY Foundation in Nigeria, Dr. Isham Muhammad, and the Chief Medical Doctor for the medical exercise, Dr. Bihlali Abdallah they are glad with the reception in the state to ensure the successes of the medical outreach.
