WACHEF Charges Journalists On Hepatitis Stigma

 

Journalists are being called on by the Women and Children Health Empowerment Foundation (WACHEF) to sensitise the masses against the discrimination of persons living with hepatitis.

The foundation also urged for them to go the extra mile in encouraging male participation in antenatal care so as to help prevent the transmission of the disease from mother-to-child.

WACHEF, in collaboration with the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), made the call during the weekend in Jalingo, Taraba State, as part of activities to mark the World Hepatitis Day 2022, believes that with all hands on deck, the dream of having a hepatitis-free society is achievable.

While being led by the Programme Manager, Wisdom Christopher, WACHEF embarked on awareness creation on the hepatitis virus, testing and vaccination, saying it will not rest till the virus is totally eliminated from the state.

Mr. Christopher, who is also as the Acting Executive Director of the foundation, stated that the growing rate of hepatitis in the state and the country at large, necessitated that all hands must be on deck to eliminate the disease.
