Taraba State: Over 36,000 Residents HIV Positive
With the State Agency for the Control of Aids, the Taraba state Government has once more expressed its commitment in eliminating the virus from the State come 2030.
This was disclosed at the weekly review performance of the Implementation partners working across HIV, tuberculosis and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Taraba State during the weekend.
During the time that the report was filed, 36,396 persons living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Taraba State, were said to be currently under a regular treatment in State. Out of this number on treatment, only 20,200 are said to have been virally suppressed.

The weekly review, which had taken place at the Situation room that is located in the premises of the State secretariat, had brought together various implementation partners as well as RISE Nigeria, World Health Organisation, among others.
Out of the 2,156 persons that were said to have been tested for HIV across the sixteen local government councils of Taraba State, last week, only 77 persons were confirmed positive. 359 out of the number tested were children between the ages of 0-14 years old.
76 out of the 77 persons who had tested positive, were said to have been linked to treatments with various health facilities that were scattered across the State.
Dr. Garba Danjuma, the Director-General of the Agency, explained that the desire of the State is to eliminate HIV on or before 2030 and to make sure that no person has died as a result of the disease again.
Dr. Joseph Chiegil, the team leader of Reaching Impact and Saturation Epidemic Control (RISE Nigeria), alongside other partners, had mapped out action points that would assist in addressing the prevalence of the disease.
