Saraki: No Pregnant Woman Should Die During Childbirth
The Founder of Well-being Foundation Africa, and wife of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, declares that no pregnant woman should lose her life through childbirth.
She has henceforth implored Nigerians to rise to the occasion, and make sure that the safety of every pregnant woman during childbirth is assured of.
Written in a statement that was signed by her Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Shola Ayelabola, Mrs. Saraki made the decision during a visit to the Kuchigoro Primary Healthcare Center and Maitama District hospital, which were both in Abuja, to show her care for the area of maternal and newborn health.
Mr. Ayelabola said Mrs. Saraki had expressed her sadness at the steadily increasing rate of child and maternal mortality in Nigeria, which she stated had prompted the establishment of her foundation.
According to her, pregnant women are able to enjoy free antenatal care and childbirth delivery through the foundation. She mentioned that the foundation had planned to increase the number of nurses and midwives in Nigeria in order to ensure an effective and efficient healthcare delivery in the country.
Mrs. Saraki had called upon on all the stakeholders to put all hands on deck to ensure the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals for both maternal and newborn health in Nigeria by the year 2030. She then stressed that curbing maternal mortality was crucial to the proper development of any country that had the interests of its citizens at heart.
