Religious Leaders Trained By BA-Nigeria On The Dangers Of Self-Medication

With support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Breakthrough Action-Nigeria (BA-Nigeria), is charging faith-based organisations with the dangers of self-medication in malaria, COVID-19, and tuberculosis treatments.

BA-Nigeria stated this in Calabar, during a two-day orientation workshop to highlight the roles and responsibilities of religious leaders in the management of malaria, COVID-19, tuberculosis, and other diseases of public health importance.

Dr. Kennedy Orazulike, the Cross River State Coordinator, BA-Nigeria, stated that the objective of the training was to leverage the platform of religious leaders to reach more people about the danger of self-medication.

Specifically, he said, there has been an increase in the prevalence of malaria in Cross River, and noted that with the help of religious leaders taking the message to the larger society through advocacy and sensitisation of their congregations, there would be a behavioural change in accessing health facilities.
