6 Quack Doctors, Others Arrested By Cross River Task Force
The Cross River State Task Force on Quackery and Related Violations in Healthcare Delivery System has arrested six fake doctors and other persons in connection with 11 fake surgery operations in the state, while 13 health facilities have been shut down.
Yesterday, Dr. David Ushie, the Chairman of the Task Force, disclosed this at a media briefing and said the task force inaugurated in 2020 had responded to 22 reports, arrested seven violators, and closed down 13 healthcare facilities on account of various violations of the regulatory laws.
Ushie, who is also the Special Adviser to the state governor on Health matters, said the sad incident happened in Aladim in Ogoja Local Council.
According to him, the Task Force working on a tip-off concerning the activities of some surgeons made necessary contacts with relevant government agencies and arrested a few quack doctors on September 8, 2022.
Ushie further stated that the culprits work as a syndicate to extort money from innocent members of the public.
According to him, the Task Force does “not directly prosecute or adjudicate on issues affecting non-members, but will hand those who are not medical doctors over to the police, while members are handled by internal disciplinary processes.”
