President Tinubu Vows to Intensify Fight Against Drug Abuse

On International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in its quest to combat substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

Tinubu urged all Nigerians to join forces in the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, launched by NDLEA three years ago. He emphasized the need for evidence-based prevention strategies, adequate resource allocation, and partnerships to effectively address drug abuse.

The president acknowledged the devastating impact of illicit drugs on individuals, families, communities, and countries worldwide. He stressed that prevention is key, empowering individuals to make informed choices, promoting healthy lifestyles, and building resilient communities.

Tinubu pledged to support NDLEA in building on its successes and working with stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes in the next national drug use survey. He called on religious leaders, traditional leaders, educational institutions, opinion leaders, and civil society organizations to join the fight against drug abuse.

By prioritizing prevention and collaboration, Nigeria can break the cycle of drug abuse and safeguard its youth’s future.
