President Tinubu Establishes New Health Sector Coordination Unit

President Bola Tinubu has approved the creation of the Sector-wide Coordinating Office-Programme Management Unit (SCO-PMU), a new health sector coordination unit aimed at enhancing the management of external grants for the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII). The unit will be housed in the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare.

According to a statement by the President’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the SCO-PMU will ensure efficient, transparent, and accountable management of grants, reporting to a steering committee chaired by the Minister of Health. The unit’s functions will include program management, monitoring and evaluation, and fiduciary management.

Dr. Muntaqa Umar Sadiq has been appointed as the National Coordinator of SCO-PMU, bringing over 17 years of experience in public health, impact investing, and finance. He has previously served in various roles, including Head of Performance Management and Delivery Unit at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, CEO of the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria, and Head of the Nigeria Energy Transition Office.

This new unit demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector and ensuring effective management of resources to achieve the goals of the NHSRII.
