Philanthropist donates medical equipment to rural health centre in Enugu State
An Enugu-based philanthropist and real estate developer, Mr Dave Ugwu on Wednesday donated medical equipment to Type-3 Healthcare Centre in Orba, Udenu council area of Enugu State.
The equipment include two Neonatal incubators, phototherapy machine, two Radiant warmers, portable Anesthetic machine, among others.
Presenting the medical equipment to the state government at Orba, Ugwu, who is the CEO of Dumaco Best Property Ltd, said the gesture was to complement efforts of the state Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, in enhancing healthcare services in the state.
“I am here to support Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s drive to make healthcare services available to the people of the state especially those in the rural communities.
“His Excellency is doing well in the healthcare sector and other sectors in the state in spite of the state’s lean resources and nation’s economic challenges,” he added.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Emmanuel Obi, who received the equipment, lauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for his administration’s commitment in providing medical facilities across all levels of healthcare services in the state.

According to him, the preference of Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration to provide quality, accessible and affordable healthcare services to the people of the state including those in the rural areas remains sacrosanct.
Obi pointed out that the state government had equally made positive impacts in upgrading and equipping the secondary healthcare facilities in the state.
The Commissioner disclosed that the governor initiated, constructed and equipped Type-3 Healthcare Centres in various local government areas of the state to boost healthcare services to rural dwellers.
“This is in line with his administration’s rural development policy.
“A lot of things have happened in the health sector of Enugu State including upgrading and equipping of general hospitals in the state.
“The building of specialist hospitals such as the infectious disease and isolation treatment hospital that will help to ameliorate issues at any level in the state.
“The list is endless, but there is nothing more touching than when you come down to the primary healthcare level, to the rural areas where we have the modern Type-3 hospitals like the one here at Orba, Udenu LGA,” the Commissioner said.
Obi commended the donor, who is an indigene of Orba, for his patriotism and steadfastness in complementing the efforts of Ugwuanyi’s administration in providing medical equipment for the hospital.
He, however disclosed that the primary health facility had carried out sensitive medical practices such as caesarean section, among others.
The climax of the event was the payment of medical bills of some discharged indigent nursing mothers who had caesarean section delivery at the hospital, by the Enugu State government, following their inability to pay the bills.
