PEGI COMMUNITY RECEIVES MEDICAL INTERVENTION

A Community in Kuje Area Council known as Pegi Resettlement Estate has received Medical intervention from A Non-Governmental Organization.

The NGO, JAM Intervention For Vulnerable Children And Climate Change Initiative, ( JAM -Initiative) organized an End Of Year Medical Outreach that catered for over 64 vulnerable persons that included the aged and persons with disabilities.

Speaking during the Event, The Founder, Mrs. Josie Mudasiru said the need to have the outreach became necessary because there was no Government Hospital in Pegi, and the only Hospital in Kuje could not cater for everyone.

This, according to her, has led to a lot of people engaging in self-medication or patronising quacks as most of these less Privileged people cannot even afford transport fare to Kuje or the City centre, nor can they afford the cost of tests and drugs.

Mrs. Mudasiru said the Medical Outreach was totally free: Free Consultation, tests and Drugs and we still ensured that beneficiaries got a gift of a Food pack. ” You need to eat well for drugs to work.

When asked about the source of her funding, she said it was basically from her, family and friends and urged Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper wherever they find themselves.

One of the participants, Mr. Audu Kauna who spoke in Hausa said he was very happy with the outreach and appreciated the effort of the organisers.

David Bitrus from Buzunkure said he was very happy because he learnt a lot from the Health Talk.

According to him, there were so many things he took for granted that he now knows are bad for his health.

Nurse Deborah Itodo gave a 30 Minutes Health Talk on how to achieve a healthy lifestyle and avoid giving birth to Children with sickle cell anaemia.

Mrs. Esther Barrow, a Volunteer shared with the participants her experience with sickle cell and urged Nigerians to ensure that tests are done in a credible laboratory.

“Please where in doubt, go for a second opinion”, she advised the group.

64 Persons benefited from the outreach and we’re catered for by a team of Professionals led by Pharmacist Mojisola Kwaghkor, Doctor Salamatu Aminu and Nursing Officer Deborah Itodo.

The Founder was full of appreciation for the Medical Team who she said all volunteered their time and resources Free of Charge.

She said it was her desire to reach other vulnerable families in the other Area Councils and hope to do so in 2024 with more support from well-meaning Nigerians.
