OSPHCDA Hosts South West Traditional Leaders to Promote PHC Services 

The Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHCDA) has hosted the South West Traditional Leaders committee on Primary Health Care Delivery (SWTLC), led by His Imperial Majesty Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi – Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife, CFR.

The gathering was convened in Akure, Ondo State on Tuesday is for a first quarter review meeting, signifying a crucial endeavor to prioritize the delivery of primary health care within their respective communities.

During the inauguration of the meeting, H. E Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu Aketi (SAN), Executive Governor of Ondo State, represented by the Deputy Governor H. E. Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, emphasized the indispensable role of traditional leaders as key opinion influencers and advocates for public health.

The Acting Governor acknowledged that their endorsement and active engagement in promoting vaccination will substantially contribute to the expansion of immunization coverage, thereby safeguarding the well-being of the populace.

In his address, Dr Faisal Shuaib, the Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), commended the SWTLC for their unwavering support in generating demand for PHC services.

He encouraged them to use the SWTLC as a platform to share invaluable insights and contribute to the development of practical strategies that can be implemented at the grassroots level.

“The ultimate objective is to empower individuals with knowledge, resources, and quality services, enabling them to lead healthy and productive lives” Dr Faisal added.

In addition, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, who also doubles as the chairman SWTLC expressed the resolute commitment of the body to promote and enhance the uptake of primary health care services within their respective domains.

The outcomes of the meeting are expected to create a substantial impact on primary health care delivery in the South West region, as traditional leaders take the helm in driving positive change.
