Oral Health: Lagos Hospital Monitors Students Against Disease
2,500 students from several schools have been screened against oral diseases by the Orile Agege General Hospital as part of events marking this year’s World Oral Health Day.
According to a statement made available to newsmen, the exercise, which was held at the Government Senior College Hall, was in collaboration with Lagos State Education District I, Agege.
In his address, Commissioner II, Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. Mobolaji Olukoya, said that dental illnesses are preventable if students were compelled by schools to carry out a comprehensive medical examination at both junior and senior entry levels.

On his part, the medical director of the hospital, Dr. Sola Pitan, said the programme was designed to ensure the general wellness in children.
“For us in Orile Agege, it is part of our strategic objective to take health drawbacks to the community. We have several community health initiatives that we organise periodically to address this issue. The School Oral Health programme is one of them,” he said.
The Dental Centre of Randle General Hospital, Surulere has also joined its counterparts across the globe to commemorate this year’s World Oral Health Day and is urging Lagos residents to take relevant steps to prevent dental and oral disease.
