Obaseki Reassures MSMEs, Elderly Citizens Of Assistance
Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, has promised to facilitate the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state by setting up industrial clusters with a steady power supply to enable them to compete favourably with counterparts across the country.
The governor gave the assurance in a goodwill message at the Stakeholders Dialogue on MSME Development and Implementation of the National MSME Policy in the state.
The event was organised by the Small Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) in collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Business, Trade and Cooperatives, Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs), with support from Pro-poor Growth and Promotion of Empowerment in Nigeria-SEDIN Programme, at Government House in Benin City.
Obaseki, who was represented by the Commissioner for Trade, Business, and Cooperatives, Afishetu Braimoh, said the state government would increase opportunities for MSMEs in the state to thrive.

He said the Ministry of Business, Trade, Industry and Cooperatives and the Edo State Skills Development Agency are working together to ensure the development of MSMEs, providing youths with opportunities for skills acquisition and self-employment and facilitating the growth of enterprises across different sectors of the state’s economy.
Senior citizens, according to the state government, will enjoy improved access to quality and affordable healthcare.
Addressing journalists during a free medical outreach for the elderly in Benin, the Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Izedonmwen Omosigho, said the outreach was organised by the centre in collaboration with Momentum Routine Immunisation Transformation and Equity (M-RITE), Heartland Alliance LTD, and St Monica’s Home for the Elderly.
The event commemorated this year’s United Nations International Day of Older Persons with the theme: “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World.”
Omosigho urged the elderly to take issues relating to their health seriously and wear facemasks to protect themselves from COVID-19, adding that regular checkups are key to improving their well-being.
According to the Director of Community and Family Health Services, Dr. Idemudia Osayomore, the elderly require proper medical care since they are more susceptible to illnesses.
