As part of activities marking the International Labour Organization’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSTIF) in Lagos spoke to workers, employers, and trade unions yesterday about the importance of occupational safety and health culture.

Among other things, the NSITF stated that the goal of the sensitization was to increase awareness about the promotion of workplace health and safety standards.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which is celebrated globally, is held every year on the 28th of April and the theme for this year’s celebration is: “Let’s act together to build a positive and health culture.”

Nkiruka Ngige, NSITF’s Business Manager, reiterated the organisations commitment to promoting a preventive safety and health culture that would allow employees and employers to fulfil their responsibility of preventing deaths, injuries and diseases within their workplaces.

She said that her organisation’s campaign was focused towards the prevention of accidents in workplaces in the country, further adding that there was a need to educate people on safety and health measures from time to time.
