NMA Directs Doctors to Treat Injured Hunger Protesters Promptly
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has instructed its members to provide immediate medical attention to protesters injured during the ongoing nationwide hunger protest. NMA President, Prof. Bala Audu, emphasized the importance of treating injured protesters promptly, especially in emergency situations.
Audu expressed concern over reports of violence, looting, and attacks on ambulances, which have put medical practitioners at risk. He advised doctors to exercise caution while commuting to work and ensure their safety.

The NMA president appealed to protesters to engage in dialogue with the government and urged the Federal and state governments to restore law and order nationwide.
Additionally, Dr. Babajide Saheed, Chairman of the NMA Lagos State Branch, reminded doctors to treat gunshot victims without demanding a police report, in accordance with the Treatment and Care of Gunshot Victims Act. He emphasized the need for specialized care and equipment to prevent death or disability.
Saheed also called on the Federal Government to reimburse private health facilities for their services and review its economic policies to improve citizens’ quality of life.
