NHIS: Stakeholders’ Discuss Critical Health Issues
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) State Office, Yaba has hosted an interactive stakeholders’ forum in Lagos to address the critical issues affecting the sector.
In attendance of the event were the representatives of Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs), accredited healthcare providers and a cross-section of enrollees from several Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Olufemi Akingbade, the General Manager of the Lagos Zonal Office, strictly stated that the forum was only to provide updates on key reforms and initiatives, aside from encouraging engagement among stakeholders.

Dr. Abraham Bethuel-Kasimu, the Deputy General Manager and Head of Standards and Quality Assurance Department, highlighted that the flagship Group, Individual, Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP), had been recently expanded to mandatorily cover all serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He explained that the scheme was to provide a comprehensive benefits package that would also cover emergency medical services and out-of-station care. In line with its commitment to providing responsive services to its enrollees, a complaint redress mechanism was instituted.
