Meningitis Outbreak Hits Kebbi

Tragedy has struck Kebbi state claiming the lives of 26 individuals following a suspected outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis in Aliero, Gwandu, and Jega local government areas.

It is a severe infection that leads to inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. It is  caused by bacteria or viruses and can spread through close contact with infected persons.

According to health officials, common symptoms of the disease include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. If left untreated, the infection can result in severe complications or even death.

Furthermore, the government has assured residents that measures were being put in place to contain the outbreak, including increased surveillance and public health awareness campaigns.

Lastly, the authorities also urged residents to seek immediate medical attention if they experience any symptoms associated with meningitis.
