LUTH Prepares Medical Outreach For Mushin Residents
To mark its 60th anniversary, officials from the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) organised medical services for the residents of Mushin, Lagos State.
Speaking to journalists during the event held at Eko Boys High School, Mushin, Deputy Director, Administration, LUTH Dr. Hope Nwawolo, said that the hospital wanted to reach out to members of the public, specifically those within their vicinity.
She said it is a Corporate Social Responsibility to appreciate them for being with “us through the 60 years of existence of the hospital and there was no better way to do it than render services that they ordinarily would go to the hospital and pay for. We also have officials from the Lagos State government and friends of the hospital.”
Nwawolo added that LUTH is situated in Mushin and has always had interactions with them. She recalled: “This is not the first outreach. We’ve had one at Idi-Araba. We are giving back to them and impacting their lives. They have always been there for us and we have always been there for them.”

She disclosed that LUTH was doing it free of charge, noting that any diagnosis made would be referred to the hospital for a follow-up. “We hope to save many lives through this outreach,” Nwawolo said. She added that the departments present at the outreach include Dental, Ophthalmology, Pharmacy, Family Planning, and Medical Consultation.
Supervisor for Health in Mushin Local Government, Mr. Femi Nuga, who represented the Chairman, noted: “I feel good that at least LUTH is able to impact lives right now. As you can see, we have an eye clinic, dental clinic, and laboratory, where we can take tests. Also, there are some doctors for consultation.
“We have the pharmacy that is also here to dispense drugs. We have a lot of programmes that we are doing for the people in this community. Health is wealth, whether we like it or not; and no matter how rich you are, you are nothing if you don’t have a good health.”
Chief John Okepukolokun, the Baale of Mashenele, said LUTH officials have visited the community three times in recent times. Expressing his appreciation, he said: “We are very grateful. This outreach will enable members of our community to live in good health. We also need Primary Health Care.”
