Kwara State Govt Provides RTEAN Members With Free Medical Outreach
The Kwara Government has provided free medical outreach to members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that service was offered on Thursday in Ilorin as part of activities to mark this year’s World Sight Day.
The outreach provided eye screening and enlightenment on eye care.
The programme was organised by the state Ministry of Health in collaboration with all eye care stakeholders in the state, who jointly celebrated the Year 2022 World Sight Day.
The day is set aside annually on Oct. 13 to increase awareness of global eye health issues and is used as an opportunity to render communal services and target special interest groups in eye care.
The theme of the 2022 celebration is: ‘’Love Your Eyes, Save Live”.
The exercise was specially dedicated to addressing the eye health issues of commercial drivers in the state.

Speaking on the sidelines of the outreach, Dr. Raji Razaq, the state Commissioner for Health, represented by the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Hajia Barakat Olarewaju, stressed the importance of eye check-ups for all and most importantly commercial drivers.
Razaq encouraged the RTEAN and NURTW members to make good use of eye hospitals whenever they noticed any unusual feelings about their eyes and should avoid consuming substances that can affect their ability to function effectively.
He explained that the eye care teams were on the ground at three designated locations in Ilorin, including Kwara Express, the state secretariats of the RTEAN, and NURTW.
NAN also reports that highlights of the event included the distribution of prescribed free eyeglasses and medications to drivers in each of the screening centres.
The medical outreach included surgical services that were carried out as well as free eyeglasses that were distributed during the outreach at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Idofin-Igbana, Ilorin.
