Kogi State: Abducted Female Doctor Freed
Dr. Rukayat Musa, a Kogi-based medical doctor, who had been kidnapped on the 21st of June, has been freed from the hands of her abductors. Dr. Musa was kidnapped along the Geregu-Ajaokuta stretch of Geregu Ajaokuta-Lokoja road as she was returning from an official assignment at Anyigba in Kogi State.
On Sunday, the Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) confirmed this in a communiqué that was issued at the end of its Ordinary General Meeting (OGM).
The communiqué, which had been jointly signed by Dr. Abubakar Hassan the State NMA Chairman, and Dr. Chimezie Udebuani, the Secretary, stated that Musa was released on Saturday, the 25th of June, and was unhurt after five harrowing days with the kidnappers in the forest.

The association discerned the worsening security situation in Kogi State and made notice that hoodlums are making life unbearable to the good people of the state. The NMA also stated that some of its members have fled Kogi State, and many more are still fleeing due to the poor security situation in the state and Nigeria in general.
The statement further read that, “As it stands now, it is as if every citizen is waiting helplessly for his/her turn to be kidnapped. The security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police are understaffed and are not as sophisticated in technology and weaponry as the kidnappers.
“Kidnappers have become more emboldened and daring because of the lack of capacity of the security agencies. Kidnapping of medical doctors and health professionals in Kogi State has the capacity to disrupt medical and healthcare services, and also create tension amongst the practitioners”.
The NMA has called upon the government, specifically the Kogi State Government to immediately ramp up the efforts in supporting the security agencies to upgrade their capacity so as to deal with kidnapping in the state.
It also added that there is a need to reverse the ugly situation of insecurity in Kogi State so that the governments other achievements will not pale into irrelevance.
