The statement reads as such: “We hereby confirm the execution of the Aragon insecticide through a pilot study (ethical approval no: NHREC 01/01/2007) by NMEP of the Public Health Department, Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with Olomitutu Kalt Limited, Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMinna), Niger State University (NSU) and Ebonyi State University (ESU), Abakaliki.
“On behalf of Olomitutu Kalt Limited, marketers of Aragon insecticide and representative of the manufacturer in Nigeria and Africa, the study was carried out in Niger and Ebonyi states, which were selected based on evidence of presence of high density of resistant strains of mosquitoes, the Anopheles gambias s.i.”
As per the ministry’s correspondence, sighted by The Guardian, findings from the study revealed that the product had a commendable breakdown on malaria vector mosquitoes, and so should be recommended for individual household usage in the country.
The letter also stated that: “The Aragon insecticide resulted in relatively higher mortalities and knockdown in the mosquito populations and other arthropod pests than the control insecticide during the pilot trial. Also, Aragon elicited high mortalities in Anopheles mosquitoes and other household pests in rooms with bed nets than in those without nets.”
