IHDA To Improve Healthcare In Ikale Community, Provides Free Services
The Ikale Heritage Development Association (IHDA) has provided free medical screening to 100 indigenes of the community in Lagos to ensure that the people of Ikale of Ondo origin in Lagos State have access to improved healthcare and a healthy lifestyle.
Otunba Sola Olatunji, the Chairman of IHDA, spoke during the first free medical outreach programme to the needy among the people of Ikale residents in Lagos State, said that the essence of the programme was to ensure the wellness of the people, adding that, “Health they say is wealth.” The programme, organised by the IHDA, was aimed at tackling the ignorance and carefree attitude to healthy lifestyle issues by among Ikale residents through health education.

Olatunji lamented the sudden rate of deaths that have been recorded in modern times among the people of the community. He said, “We feel we can halt this by embarking on a health awareness campaign, educating our people on how to manage their health and an outright examination and treatment of those who can’t afford the high cost of medication.”
Olatunji explained further, saying that ones health is priceless hence it is essential to maintain a healthy and disciplined lifestyle through healthy diets and regular exercise.

He said that the organisations who assisted to make the event a huge success, are the FIDSON Healthcare PLC, Genrocare and the Lagos State government which expressed implicit faith in what we are doing as a socio- cultural group in Lagos State He also said that the free medical screening included testing for high blood pressure, blood sugar, HIV and hepatitis, among others.
Similarly, free medications were also prescribed for participants while those who presented with severe medical conditions were not only treated on ground but also referred to medical centres for further treatment.
