HEDCODEC takes Campaign Against Gender-base Violence to ‘Corper’s Camp’ in Niger

As Nigeria joined the global community to commemorate the International Day for the elimination of gender based violence against women and girls, Heroic Discovery and Community Development Center, (HEDCODEC), on Wednessday took its awareness campaign to Corp members of National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), in Suleja, Niger state.

The campaign which commences annually on November 25 and will run for 16 days until December 10, when the United Nations celebrates ‘Human Rights Day’.

Speaking to Corps members, the Program Director, Monsurah Abdullah said the organisation joined the UN to celebrate the international day to create awareness while noting the roles of corper’s in eradicating sexual and gender violence as they are serving in different communities.

According to her, she said: “Available Data shows that Nigeria had 30 percent of girls and women aged between 15 and 49 have experienced sexual abuse.

“Acts of violence against women are often intended to intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, threaten or hurt women and girls.

“we want you to help get the message out, Interrupt abuse and stop blaming the survivour.

She further explained that her organisation is committed to raise awareness against all forms of sexual and gender-base violence againts women and girls.

“During this 16-days Activism, We have also engaged rural women to involve their men while encouraging females to speak out when they are violated or their rights infringed upon to give voice to survivors and prevent future occurance.
