Healthy Living: Ogun State Govt Charges Workers

The Ogun State Government is charging its workers to reflect on how they have been living and to take their health into their hands so as to enable them to be able to contribute meaningfully to the development of the public service and the state in general.

Dr. Nafiu Aigoro, the Head of Service, had given the admonishment during the flag-off of the 2022 public service day celebration, which had started with “Know Your Health Status,” and urged for everyone to do regular check ups and be in good health.

Dr. Tomi Coker, the Commissioner for Health, had spoken earlier and thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun and the organisers for helping the workers to know their health status and had advised everyone to be conscious of what they put in their mouth.

During her welcome address, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, stated that the programme was specially designed for the celebration of Ogun workers, urging everyone to always go for medical check-up regularly. She also gave her thanks to the state government for giving the workers a day to check their health status.

In his goodwill message, Dr. Tayo Lawal, the Special Adviser on Health, explained that checking one’s health status was what people pay for outside but that the governor had approved for it to be free, and that it would empower and give everyone the information to know what one needs to know, and how to remain and sustain healthy living.

In her lecture on non-communicable diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, Dr. Temitope Yomibo-Sofolahan said that they could happen in anybody and many people were not aware of this.

Over 37 million people in Nigeria and 1.1 billion globally have hypertension and the older one becomes, the higher the chances of having high blood pressure. According to her, everyone should reduce salt intake and eat vegetables.

While speaking on the behalf of the participants, Mrs. Oluwafemi Itunuoluwa from Hospital Management Board and Mr. Soji Solarin from Ministry of Information and Strategy thanked the administration for the laudable programme, which would enable workers to put in more efforts in their day-to-day activities.
