Health Workers Trained in Trauma and Emergency Management
The Lagos Chapter of the Association of Medical Social Workers of Nigeria (AMSWON) has trained health workers in Lagos State on trauma and emergency management to reduce the number of Nigerians that struggle with mental health problems and depression.

Yesterday, Dr. Olugbenga Owoeye, the Medical Director (MD), Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, disclosed this at the yearly socio-scientific conference held in Yaba, Lagos, with the theme: “Assessing and Understanding Trauma in Clinical Social Work Practice,” and said that the training had come at the right time when many Nigerians have both physical and psychological traumas as a result of kidnappings, banditry and herdsmen attacks, among others, in the country daily.

He then emphasised the need for non-governmental organisations, religious institutions, individuals, and philanthropists, among others, to dive their support to social health workers and ensure that mental health challenges are acknowledged and reduced in the country.
