HCPAN: DG NHIA, Sambo Clinches Semper Fidelis Award
The Director General of the National Health Insurance Authority, Prof Mohammed Nasir Sambo, has been bestowed with Semper Fidelis, the highest award ever awarded to individual in Nigeria by the Health Care Providers Association of Nigeria (HCPAN) the weekend.
The award according to the organisers is in recognition of hard work and resilience of the Prof Nasir Sambo in achieving a milestone for the health sector and Nigerians through his doggedness within two years on the saddle as the director general of the agency.
Dr Jimmy Adeyeye, the National President of HCPAN, while speaking on the award, noted that the honour was a well thought out one being given in recognition of Sambo’s immense contributions in repositioning the critical stakeholders in health insurance scheme and issues in Nigeria.

He note that building an enduring foundation for a better relationship between health management organisations (HMOs), healthcare providers, NHIA, as well as NECA and civil society has been tremendous as a team player and rallying points in regulatory functions, adding that his group perceive his consistency and transparency with transformational agenda so far as worthy of emulation.
Adeyeye pointed out that the recent achievement of universal health coverage modalities with signage of mandatory health insurance bill into law on May 19 2022 by NHIA Act 17 remains a living testimony of changing narratives and gameplay in Nigeria’s health insurance projects.
“Prof Mohammed Nasir Sambo had worked tirelessly with legislature, the National Assembly, as well as the HCPAN to see the evolution of the Bill into law via serious advocacies, conferences, one form of mini summit, study tours, inter-ministerial meetings and workshops.”
