Group harps on young people friendly response to battle HIV/AIDs

To mark today’s World Aids Day, WAD, a Non-Governmental- Organisation, Heroic Discovery and Community Development Center has harped on young people-driven initiative to reduce new infections and promote prevention methods among high-school students.

Speaking at a sensitization and awareness program held in Government Sciences Secondary School, Suleja.

The Program Director, Monsurah Abdullah said young people at high-school level has been identifeid as extremely effective drivers of social change to improve the uptake of health services and reduce the risk of HIV infection.

According to her, the world is still falling short of achieving the targets set for young people and achieving the goal of ending Aids by 2030.

“Over the past two years, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact globally on countries’ national communicable disease programmes, crucially including the response to HIV/Aids.

“this is an avenue for schools to promote HIV prevention among students by enabling learners to know their status and begin a long-term habit of regular HIV testing.” She said.
