Gombe: NYSC begins yellow fever, COVID-19 vaccination for corps members
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in collaboration with the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency (GSPHCDA) has begun yellow fever and COVID-19 vaccination for corps members.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the exercise which began on Wednesday will last for 10 days at the Temporary Orientation Camp in Amada community, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State. The vaccination is being carried out by officials of GSPHCDA for the 2022 Batch “B” Stream I corps members currently undergoing orientation in the camp.

In her address before the exercise, the Gombe State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Ada Imoni, said the exercise was part of the scheme’s campaign to avert the outbreak of yellow fever as well as ensure that corps members were protected from COVID-19.
Imoni said 1,233 corps members were so far registered by the GSPHCDA to get vaccinated against yellow fever and COVID-19 adding that camp officials would also participate in the exercise.
“NYSC Management is concerned about the welfare of corps members and staff members and that is why we are taking seriously issues of health to ensure that corps members’ health is guaranteed.”
Imoni commended officials of the GSPHCDA and the state government for their support toward the improvement of the welfare of corps members in the state.
On the day one of the exercise, 156 corps members were vaccinated against yellow fever while 96 others were vaccinated for COVID-19. Experts say Yellow fever is an epidemic-prone mosquito-borne vaccine preventable disease that is transmitted to humans by the bites of infected mosquitoes.
