For Effective Medicare, Laboratory Scientists Are Key

Professor Barthemeus Ebirien, a Medical Laboratory Expert and Lecture, Rivers State University has emphasised the importance of medical laboratory scientists in health care delivery.

While he spoke during a one-day Malaria Colloquium that had been organised by the Ekpirikpo Erens Health Foundation in collaboration with the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists in Port Harcourt, recently, the professor explained that any attempt to ignore the important and necessary role of medical Laboratory professionals could spell doom for the nation’s healthcare.

“Any attempt to ignore them or play down on them is like surviving a ship wreck without a life guard.”

According to him, medical laboratory scientists are not adjunct in the health care delivery system but independent professionals whose role is key to health.

As key players in the health care system, he urged medical lab professionals to be proud and ensure their work was done ethically .

Also, the Hon. Erastus Awortu, the Chairman of the Andoni Local Government Area, has pledged to support medical laboratory scientists in their operation at the revived General Hospital at Ngo, headquarters of the council.

Hon. Awortu thanked the organisation for the award given to the Andoni Council in fighting malaria scourge and also urged them not to relent in the quest to eliminate malaria. He assured the health professionals that the area was secure and peaceful, as he pleaded for their support to help improve health care delivery in the area.
