FCTA To Seal Off Sub-Par Health Facilities

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has threatened several health facilities that it will not hesitate to seal off any sub-par facility that fails to provide optimum service to the residents of FCT.

This was revealed on Tuesday in Abuja when the Private Health Establishments Registration and Monitoring Committee (PHERMC) of the Department of Medical and Diagnostics went on a monitoring tour of Abuja’s health institutions.

Speaking to journalists following the exercise, Dr. Abubakar Ahmadu, Director Medical and Diagnostic, Health and Human Services Secretariat, FCTA, who led the team, said any facility found to operate below the acceptable standard or to give any service beyond the scope permitted will be sealed off.

He said that the essence of the visit was to have an intensive inspection of the private health facilities in the Federal Capital Territory to ensure that facilities that are registered with PHERMC function according to the services they were registered to provide.

“So far, what we have seen is that some facilities that were registered earlier are still maintaining the standard that we expect of them. But so far, we have had cause to seal the services of one particular facility, which was providing services beyond the scope of which it was registered,” he said.

He states that although some facilities have provided optimum service according to the approval granted by PHERMC, some were discovered to have sub-par performances.
