Emergency Medical Services Will Be Launched In Anambra
Dr. Ben Afam Obidike, the Commissioner for Health in Anambra state, has revealed the state government’s intentions to launch Emergency Medical Services this year to reduce preventable deaths.
Obidike who disclosed it at his country home Akwaeze Anaocha local government area of the state, during her annual cultural festival, noted that the present administration of Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is intent on replicating the nature of emergency response services overseas in Anambra state to save lives.
The Commissioner who stated that the State Health Policy Development would be out this January maintained that Ambulance Services would be commissioned this month and that the state toll-free official number 112 is functional.

He also said that the Emergency Ambulance System’s Computer Rooms are ready; anyone in dire need of help can call 112 and an ambulance would go and rescue the person wherever he or she is around Anambra state.
Obidike said it has been discovered that people died when they have accidents even at home; the government has decided to save lives henceforth by introducing ambulance services with toll-free numbers irrespective of the location or distance of the emergency.
He said that the emergency medical response services would be private-sector driven and that about 22 hospitals have already indicated a keen interest in ambulances and are ready to operate the emergency response medical services.
Although the Commissioner expressed reservations that the health centres in the state are not where they are supposed to be, he said the present state government is mapping out strategies to ensure that health facilities get to a stage where people will have confidence in them.
Obidike said that the governor Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has employed about 300 staff in the health sector because according to the Commissioner, Anambra can’t have hospitals without doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and other personnel.
