Edo State Records 225 Lassa Fever Cases, 29 deaths
Dr. Uwa Okhuarobo, the Chief Epidemiologist in the Edo State Ministry of Health, Edo state has recorded 29 deaths out of the 225 confirmed cases of Lassa fever between January and September.
He also said that the state had recorded 15 cases of monkeypox with no death.
Okhuarobo, who disclosed this on Tuesday in a chat with Daily Trust, said the Lassa fever cases spread across 11 LGAs, noting that the four LGAs with the highest burden were Etsako West, Esan West, Esan North East, and Esan Central.
He explained that the 15 confirmed cases were spread in the five LGAs of Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba Okha, Uhumwonde, and Esan West.

He said the response to infectious diseases control in the state was not new, hence that they were taking measures to sustain the response and rid the state of infectious diseases.
Okhuarobo said Gov Godwin Obaseki had given an executive order to the LGAs with a high burden of Lassa fever to put machinery in place to ensure that cases were brought to the barest minimum.
The doctor further stated that they had been sensitising the people on personal hygiene, housekeeping, and good waste management practices, as well as stopping the indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
