Edo State: Anti-Lassa Fever Campaign Begins

 

 

Yesterday, Prof. Nosakhare Bazuaye, the Chief Medical Director of Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH), Okada, Edo State, had called for there to be more concerted efforts toward curbing Lassa fever in Nigeria.

Professor Bazuaye made this call during the Public Health Awareness Campaign that had been organised by the hospital, with the theme: “Lassa fever: prevention and treatment.”

He stated that the campaign had become necessary after the discovery of Lassa fever in the Ovia North East Council.

As he advocated for health safety in the community, the CMD pointed out that the campaign was aimed at creating awareness on different ways to prevent and treat Lassa fever.

Dr. Eyo Nora, the Edo State Coordinator of the World Health Organisation (WHO), had commended IUTH on its efforts.

Dr. Nora, who was being represented by Grace Ireotoi, explained about several ways to contract the fever, its symptoms and prevention. On the other hand, Dr. Godwill Agbon-Ojeme, the Chairman, of the Medical Advisory Committee of IUTH, had advised the participants of the campaign to take the message home while some of the participants gave their appreciation to IUTH for the awareness campaign.

The campaigns participants had been drawn from the host community, Okada, as well as other communities in Ovia North East and Ovia South-West councils.
