Borno: Zulum moves to boost healthcare

To strengthen healthcare delivery in the conflict areas of Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum has inaugurated two oxygen plants with 23 solar-powered refrigerators.

The oxygen supply project will directly benefit about 7.1 million people, including children and women, in 26 local councils of the state.

Inaugurating the twin plants, yesterday, in Maiduguri, Zulum, represented by his deputy, Usman Kadafur, disclosed that the oxygen plants would strengthen the healthcare delivery system in the conflict areas of the state.

“We’ll continue to accord priority to the development and sustenance of healthcare infrastructural facilities to save more lives,” he said.

Unfolding the importance of oxygen, the Supervisor, United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Atinuke Fakunle, restated that it would strengthen healthcare provision and build the resilience of the health system in conflict and hard-to-reach communities.

She added: “This will enable primary healthcare facilities to provide acceptable standards of medical care in the wake of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).”
