ANPMP: Health Reforms Necessary for Health Sector

The Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP) is urging the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, to sustain reforms in the Health sector.

National President, Dr. Kayode Adesola, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, efforts at repositioning the sector be sustained.

He called for the sustenance of the Presidential Health Reform Committee, which seeks to strengthen primary health care, improve access to health insurance, and preparedness for pandemics.

Adesola said building on the gains of the committee would reduce brain drain as well as medical tourism.

He urged the president-elect to strengthen the medical emergency system to reduce morbidity and mortality.

The union leader said states should partner National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System in domesticating state emergency medical service and ambulance systems.

He said this would strengthen the system by institutionalising emergency and ambulance systems.

“Presently, four states have provisions for emergency medical service and ambulance system. We need to increase the number.

Adesola noted insecurity remains a factor fuelling brain drain, saying not all relocated due to poor pay.

He further appealed to the president-elect to improve welfare and apply world standards in the remuneration of workers.
