ANPA Volunteers Praised As 10,000 Persons Benefit From Telemedicine
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has commended the Association of Nigerian Physicians in America (ANPA) for their shared commitment in giving back to their homeland.
According to Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the governors wife, a total of 10,000 patients received medical attention during the one week outreach by the Nigerian-American volunteers in Edo State.
While speaking on Tuesday in Benin during the launch of the Telemedicine Hub at Ugbor Primary Health Centre (PHC), Governor Obaseki further reiterated the determination to decentralise the healthcare system as well as commit to the cause of saving lives.
While being represented by Mr. Osarodion Ogie, the Secretary to the State Government, the governor mentioned that if not for the Volunteers, most of the beneficiaries would not have been able to pay for the free services.

According to him, the government had focused on three major areas when it assumed office in 2016, and he thanked God that the vision had gradually been fulfilled. He then assured that, “Whatever it takes we (government) need to do to make this programme work, we will do it.”
Mrs Obaseki, who praised the Volunteers for their commitment, stated that her passion to reward the goodwill of the voters in the state during the last governorship election, was also her motivation to attract attention towards the project.
Dr. Philip Osehobo of ANPA medical outreach champion stated that the initiative was a complement to the association’s recent medical outreach to Edo state. He said that both the group and the government have delivered on its mandate through a partnership for cost-effective medication with the patients despite the initial hitches that they had encountered in the line of duty.
“We have shift every Saturday where doctors out of voluntarism, benevolence of hearts and wanting to give back, sacrificed their time.”
