ACOMIN: More Funding Needed To Eradicate Malaria

 

 

The Civil Society in Malaria Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has called upon the Nigerian government at all levels to increase the budgetary allocation given to health, particularly the initiatives that are aimed at eradicating malaria.

Mr. Tayo Akinpelu, the organisations State Secretary, made notice of this during a press briefing in Abeokuta for the commemoration of World Malaria Day for year 2022 which is marked under the theme “Advance Equity, Build Resilience, End Malaria.”

In line with the theme, Mr. Akinpelu urged for the state governments, the media and other stakeholders in the health sector to increase the awareness on the need for the general public to assimilate prevention practices as a lifestyle towards the protection of the most vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and young children who under the age of 5.

He said that malaria is one of Nigeria’s most important public health concerns due to the illness and death it causes to millions of people yearly. He also added that Nigeria has the highest number of malaria cases globally with 27% of the total global death.

Despite the appreciation for the intervention of the Federal and state governments on the implementation of the basic health care provision funds, the ACOMIN State Secretary also said that there is a need for community involvement for more impactful service delivery. He also called upon community leaders to intensify their efforts in the fight to get the world closer to being malaria free.

Mrs. Sola Oyewole who represented Ogun state Primary Health Care Development Board at the event, also urged communities, families and individuals to play their own parts in the the fight against malaria. She pointed out that prevention remains the key in tackling the scourge.

Mr. Muiz Bankole a community Leader for Lafiaji/Ilupeju, also appreciated the ACOMIN Team for enlightening them on how to keep malaria at bay.
